I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

Zimbabwe: Two trains collide – 98 injured

Harare – Two commuter trains collided in the Zimbabwean capital Harare during the early morning rush hour on Wednesday, leaving 98 injured, some of them seriously, a hospital spokesperson has said.

The collision occurred at around 7:00 when one of the drivers failed to yield to an incoming train carrying commuters from the city’s working class suburbs, said Deputy Transport Minister Andrew Langa.

“This was due to human error,” he said.

A total of 98 people were treated at Harare Parirenyatwa hospital, the largest in the country, some of whom were considered in critical condition, said Jane Dadzie, public relations officer at the hospital.

“The numbers are overwhelming but staff has been beefed up to cope with the situation,” she said.

The crash pushed four carriages off the tracks and a fifth tipped over. Police cordoned off the area as panicked relatives arrived at the scene to try to find their loved ones.

Eyewitnesses and passengers said the trains smashed into each other as they approached the platform at the station.

“They were speeding,” said one passenger. “One was hit around the middle.”
