S.Africa: R50 million worth of Coal stolen!!
More than 10 people have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of about R50-million worth of coal, Mpumalanga police said on Thursday.
Superintendent Izak Van Zyl said that investigations began in June 2003 after several people said that coal was being stolen from mines as far afield as the Free State.
“They were allegedly stealing it and then selling it for their own pocket,” Van Zyl said.
Organised crime units in Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State and Gauteng were involved in the investigation.
The Assets Forfeiture Unit was expected to seize the assets of those arrested during the course of Thursday. – Sapa
