African leaders talk about Security and an African Army

WARNING: This is Version 1 of my old archive, so Photos will NOT work and many links will NOT work. But you can find articles by searching on the Titles. There is a lot of information in this archive. Use the SEARCH BAR at the top right. Prior to December 2012; I was a pro-Christian type of Conservative. I was unaware of the mass of Jewish lies in history, especially the lies regarding WW2 and Hitler. So in here you will find pro-Jewish and pro-Israel material. I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

African leaders talk about Security and an African Army

[They can’t feed their people but they want to create a single African Army. Let them at it, because I reckon most of its clout will come from South Africa anyway. Whether it will achieve much is doubtful. I suspect its real reason for existing will be to keep Dictators and One Party States in power – FOREVER!!

I do enjoy Gadaffi when he pretends he’s black. Its about as funny as Michael Jackson. Jan]

Sirte – Leaders and officials from more than 50 African states convened a summit on Friday aimed at discussing security strategies for a trouble-plagued continent, with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi urging Africans to unite if they wanted to be strong and influential in the world.

At the two-day African Union summit, members are expected to finalise a “peace and security protocol” that will allow for an exchange of information and strategies to combat criminal activity and political instability on the continent.

“There should be no place for weakness so that force cannot be imposed on us,” said Gaddafi said in his opening address to African leaders meeting in this Libyan city on the Mediterranean.

“We have the capabilities that would allow us to be as strong as the United States and the European Union, and this is a good thing, so there could be balance in the world. When there is no balance, there are wars and conflicts,” he said.

As the summit opened, a group of about 60 students in the hall waving small flags shouted “Africa, Africa. United, United.”

‘Used us as mercenaries’

Gaddafi recalled the past of Africa when it was colonised and its people sold as slaves.

“They hunted us in the forests like animals, put us on ships and sold us for cheap… they used us as mercenaries to fight for their colonising empires,” he said.

“We hope the humanitarian tragedy will not be repeated… but, if we are not strong, they could be tempted again,” he said.

European Commission President Romano Prodi attended the opening session.

Gaddafi said there was a new European and American mentality that drew on lessons from the past.

The only compensation for Africa for the past is through African “efforts and sweat, blood and tears for the sake of liberating and uniting the continent and building its capabilities”, he said.

Gaddafi’s idea of creating a single African army to defend the continent was discussed by foreign ministers of the African states in a meeting on Thursday.

US$40m debt inherited from OAU

Libyan officials have touted the proposal of a single African army as “a progressive idea”, but delegates from other nations cautioned that it needed a lot of research.

They questioned how the continent could unite militarily if it could not unite politically.

The African Union aspires to be more effective, but it labours under financial constraints, including a US$40m debt inherited from the OAU.

Gaddafi first proposed the single continental army at the 2002 summit in Durban, South Africa. He renewed his proposal three days ago at a meeting of African defence ministers.

A senior African diplomat, speaking on condition neither he nor his country were identified, said on Thursday the formation of a united army was a long-term project and required more co-operation than existed on the continent.
