S.Africa: Post Mortem: Dutch student was shot

Cape Town – Dutch exchange student Marleen Konings died of a bullet wound, a port-mortem has shown.
The office of Western Cape police chief Commissioner Mzwandile Petros on Monday said dental records confirmed that the body found in the Tradouw Pass on Friday was that of Konings.
Konings disappeared on December 29. A countrywide search led to the arrest of a suspect in Upington last Wednesday.
The suspect pointed out the scene of the murder and at the time confessed to killing the 24-year-old student.
Konings was found on the banks of the Huis River, where it had been lying in the sun for at least 17 days.
A firearm has been found that is directly linked to the suspect and the murder scene.
A docket for the murder of Konings has been registered at Barrydale in the Western Cape.
The suspect will appear in the Swellendam magistrate’s court on Wednesday.
Arrangements are being made for Konings’s body to be taken back to The Netherlands.
