New Year"s Tradition: Throwing Fridges off balconies
[Note. Hillbrow – see the photo gallery on my website – regarding Hillbrow/Johannesburg. Hillbrow used to be where Johannesburg’s night life was… then the blacks took it over… and now, it is a violent place. On New Year’s Eve, they like to throw all sorts of furniture, including refrigerators, out of their windows on to passers-by below. Goodness knows what makes them do this… but last year, the Police fought gun-battles with the inhabitants. Amazing the things blacks get up to… and I haven’t the faintest clue why. Jan]
Johannesburg – The Hillbrow police on Tuesday warned that they would adopt a strict approach against anyone throwing objects from high-rise buildings on new year’s eve.
Inspector Kriben Naidoo said people should be cautious and sensible and avoid throwing objects from buildings which might cause injury to others staying in the area.
Police would deal harshly with people firing shots in the air as this might also have serious repercussions.
“Firing shots in the air might have detrimental results as children or anyone might be hit by a stray bullets. Gun owners must ensure that their guns are locked in a safe bolted to a wall,” Naidoo said.
People should enjoy themselves and co-operate with the police who would be helping to keep the area free of any undesirable situation.
Naidoo wished all residents of Hillbrow a safe new year, filled with peace and a commitment towards creating a crime-free society.
