Black Man chops girlfriend into pieces after quarrel
A man has been arrested after being stopped while carrying his dead girlfriend’s body in a bag.
The man, who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death during an argument, had chopped her into pieces after realising her body was too heavy to carry.
Ivory Park policemen, suspecting him of lugging around stolen property, arrested him after they had searched his bag.
Superintendent Eugene Opperman, the North Rand police spokesperson, said yesterday the policemen had driven into Thembisa’s Motsu Section, in the Ivory Park area, and spotted a 51-year-old man walking with a heavy bag.
“They saw the man in an open field and stopped him,” Opperman said.
“They noticed that he was very nervous, so they opened the bag.
“They found a woman’s torso inside. Her head, arms and legs were missing.
“It was a truly gruesome find – enough to keep anybody awake at night.”
During questioning, the man told the police officers that he had stabbed his girlfriend, Phathekile Motsoane (46), after they had had an argument at his shack in Seotlane Section, Thembisa, on Saturday night.
The man declined to say what the argument had been about.
According to Opperman, the man claimed that he had other family to think about and “doesn’t want to hurt anybody else’s feelings”.
The suspect then claimed that he had wanted to dispose of the body.
However, it was too heavy for him to carry, so he cut off the woman’s head, arms and legs.
Opperman said the woman’s head and hands were found in a ditch in Seotlane Section and parts of the legs were hidden in a drain near Motheong Section.
Other parts of the legs were found in the suspect’s home. The dead woman had lived next door.
Opperman said all the body parts would be pieced together at the mortuary to ensure that they were all from the same corpse, and that all the pieces had been recovered.
“His (the suspect’s) word on this will go a very long way to helping our investigation,” Opperman said.
The man was due to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court today.
