News Flash: Weekend of Panic for Farmers in Zim
This last week after the deadline for the 2,900 farmers had expired, has been quiet. There was an incident on monday where a white farmer was murdered, and where a few farmers vacated their properties after being threatened by “War Veterans”. But otherwise it was a quiet week.
Then, towards the end of the week the Zimbabwe Police began arresting farmers. A few of them were in court on friday and were let go on bail. Some were allowed to return to their farms. If found guilty they can be fined 20,000 Zimbabwe dollars or sent to jail for up to two years.
According to THE CITIZEN newspaper in South Africa, 24 whites have been arrested by the Police in the last two days. However, this morning on RADIO JACARANDA I heard that 39 had been arrested of the estimated 1,600 who had defied the eviction orders. According to RADIO JACARANDA, panic was ensuing and many were now preparing to flee their farms and intending to go to South Africa as refugees.
