What Arabs in America think of Americans
A good American friend of mine, Lydia posted this most interesting piece on
my discussion forum. It is worth thinking about. Ldyia wrote:-
“A friend called me today and told me this: she had been to see a friend in
Eugene, Oregon, who was hosting a couple of Arab students. It was the day
after the destruction of the WTC and the scenes were still being shown on
t.v. She said these two students were laughing about it, so she asked them
why they would laugh at the death of innocent people, to which they did not
answer. Then she asked them what they thought of Americans. One of them said,
“We think you are very stupid.” She then asked them, “Then why are you over
here getting an education?” to which one said, “It is easy to pass tests over
here. Our education is much harder.” She then proceeded to tell them that
even though she was “stupid” she would not laugh if innocent people in their
country met with the same disaster. She asked them if their God would allow
that sort of thinking. Before they could answer, they received a phone call
from their parents overseas, telling them not to leave the country. These two
young men were severely sobered after that call. Their parents had told them
they were in great danger and should not return. They then both apologized to
her for calling Americans stupid
Our liberal radio stations in the Eugene, Oregon area are really playing up
the “poor, persecuted Arab in our country” citing hundreds of reports of
attacks…I do not trust their “statistics” and think there is a reason for
these reports day in and day out, in place of the reports of the body count
in New York. We are hearing nothing about the devastation, and a lot about
how people from the Middle East are being discriminated against.”
I must say I agree with Lydia’s friend. It is disgusting to laugh at
innocents who die and I can’t imagine anyone doing it in any country,
nevertheless, the manner in which these people behaved is to me, utterly
disgusting.
