I was definitely WRONG about the Boeremag and Janusz Walus. They were for real.

China to launch largest ever wargames (?)

I have taken a great interest in several recent reports of a massive
“wargaming” excercise to be undertaken by China. Last year, a Chinese
dissident said that in September 2000, the Chinese would attack Taiwan.
They never did. I note that this is almost exactly a year
later. Could this be the real thing disguised as an exercise?

I am curious as to whether this could be a real attack which is being

China to launch largest military exercises
By KIRK TROY

BEIJING, Aug. 21 (UPI) — The Chinese military is set to begin its
largest ever military exercises Wednesday on the coast near Taiwan after
nearly four months of preparation, a Hong Kong newspaper reported.

The Hong Kong based Wen Wei Po cited military and unnamed sources Tuesday
as saying military and civilian leaders would be on hand to watch the
drill.

The newspaper had earlier said that all roads in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian
province, which faces Taiwan, and all roads leading south to the Dongshan
Islands had been closed to civilian traffic in preparation for the war
games.

It quoted Chinese military officials as saying the drill would simulate
how the People’s Liberation Army would “smash at any time any plots by
Taiwan independent separatists.”

China has repeatedly threatened the use of force to reunite Taiwan with
the mainland, and in recent months bolstered its forces along the Taiwan
Straits and increased its military budget significantly.

The report didn’t say when the games would begin, but military units in
the three coastal provinces of Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong have been
preparing since April.
