Does Wesley Snipes have fake S.African passport?

<p>Johannesburg – Claims that American actor Wesley Snipes carried a South African passport would be investigated, said the department of home affairs on Friday. </p>
<p>The Star newspaper has handed documents to the department about the matter. </p>
<p>Home affairs spokesperson Leslie Mashokwe said the department would respond to the holding and questioning of Snipes at Johannesburg International Airport on June 1 when he tried to leave South Africa after a visit. </p>
<p>The Star published a picture on Friday, apparently of Snipes”s South African passport, with a story that the newspaper had documents which showed Snipes had missed an Air France flight to Switzerland while being questioned. </p>
<p>He was later allowed to board a Kenya Airways flight to Geneva. </p>
<p>The South African passport – issued in 2003 – showed Snipes”s place of birth as the United States and the identity number correctly reflected his birth date as July 31 1962. </p>
<p>However, when tested on the department of home affairs web site the ID number was found to be invalid. </p>
<p>Mashokwe said Snipes had been interviewed and then allowed to go through immigration and was not arrested or held. </p>
<p>He did not know why Snipes was interviewed and why he apparently had a South African passport. </p>
<p>Mashokwe said: “As soon as we are able to authenticate the information from The Star we will be able to give a response.” </p>
