Eight members of the Dennilton Community Policing Forum were arrested in Kgobokoane village on Thursday on suspicion of murder, Limpopo police said.
Constable Mmapitso Aphane said the suspects – five women and three men, aged between 20 and 51 – were arrested at 2pm.
“The suspects were arrested for allegedly killing Tshukuwane Maekane, 39, on Monday after accusing him of stock theft,” said Aphane.
On Monday the eight went to Maekane’s home to investigate the theft of two lambs from the village.
“We believe they interrogated Maekane until he confessed to stealing and selling the lambs. He allegedly sold them to someone in Ga-Phaahle village, near Siyabuswa.
“The CPF members went to the village and found the lambs,” said Aphane.
She said that Maekane’s body with head wounds was found at the CPF offices on Monday.
“We suspect he was beaten to death with an unknown object,” said Aphane.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Dennilton Magistrate’s Court on Friday facing a murder charge. – Sapa
