Jan] Director-general in the Presidency Frank Chikane visited the widow of former state president PW Botha at the Bothas’ Wilderness home on Wednesday. VIP unit police said the meeting ended shortly before 2pm. It was anticipated Chikane would offer the Botha family a state funeral for Botha, who died peacefully on Tuesday night at the age of 90. The family – Mrs Barbara Botha, and Botha’s two daughters and two sons – were expected to decline. Mrs Botha told Sapa earlier that her husband had not wanted a state funeral.
